• In 2003 Gipsy.cz exploded onto the Czech music scene. With roots firmly in Hip Hop, Radoslav ‘Gipsy’ Banga developed a vision for ‘Romano Hip Hop’, recruiting the best Czech Roma musicians and creating a new intoxicating musical mixture. Recently, the band have been collaborating with Glastonbury stars & media favourites Gogol Bordello.

• Banga drew influences from Roma rhythms, the Roma language and culture and the 200 bpm music played by Balkan Roma brass bands - and added three group members : top Czech gypsy violin player Vojta Lavicka (ex Alom, Deep Sweden...) and young brothers Petr Surmaj (guitar & accordion) & Jan Surmaj (double bass).

• “Romano Hip Hop” became the first Czech album to make the top ten of the European World Music Charts, earlier in 2007 - and Radek Banga, leader of the Gypsy.cz has been nominated as the Czech ambassador to the European Year of Equal Opportunities for All.

• The album received a good 3-star review in the November 2007 issue of Songlines : “ Gipsy.cz has something very fresh....fine pop hooks that lodge in your brain....and, there is a gypsy influence in the off-beat, syncopated rhythms provided by the un-hip hop ensemble of guitar, accordeon, hammered dulcimer & fiddle”

Demiran Cerimovic and his orchestra «The Pearls of Vranje» are Rroma living in a small town of Vranje in Southern Serbia. With their traditonnal Rroma music, they’ve been playing on all kind of Rroma and world music festivals in Serbia and above since 1997. Seven times they won the price of the best brass band Rroma orchestra at «Vlasinsko leto» summer festival and twice (in 2002 and 2006) at the famous Guca brass band festival, the most important of its kind in Europe. They present the joy of traditional Rroma music and dance from the Balkans, especially the famous coceks so typical for the Vranje are.

GlobeStyle continues to explore the brass instrument music of Eastern Europe with this trumpet-led brass band from the southern parts of former Yugoslavia. Comprising 4 trumpets, 3 tenor horns, a tuba and a babanj (a bass drum played with a heavy stick on one side, a light rod on the other), this group are mostly pro and semi-pro musicians (leader Jova is at least a third generation musician). Formed in 1976 (with current ages ranging from 29 to 56 years), the ensemble play at home and abroad, the bulk of their domestic work being playing for local celebrations and weddings.As Kim Burton notes, in his liner essay, the music is "oriental melody filled with a powerful yet restrained emotion and driving, funky rhythms that you hear on this record...So whether you want to dance or listen, get married or stay single, GlobeStyle are happy to present the whirlwind that is Jova Stojiljkovic's Brass Orkestar".

Serbian gypsy, but has adopted Romanian traditions through his roots in the poly ethnic village of Nikolinci, eighty kilometers north of Belgrade, where the majority is Romanian. In 1970, the one year old Lelo moved with his parents to Denmark and settled in HelsingÃ¸r. Today, Lelo lives in MalmÃ¶, in the south of Sweden.
At the age of five Lelo got his first accordion from his father, who is also an accordionist and whose family is well known for its gypsy music traditions passed down through generations. Lelo was brought up with music as a natural everyday element; music was a way of life, a way of communication, irrespective of situation, place or hour. Technical qualities was never ends in themselves, simply means to attain total expression. His father was Leloâ€™s first accordion teacher and brought his son to Yugoslavia, when he was ten years old. Lelo stayed there for three years, studying under the Serbian accordionist Branimir Djokic and going deeply into Slavic and Romanian culture. There is no doubt, that this stay in Yugoslavia played a crucial part in Lelo Nikaâ€™s progress, both as a musician and a human being.
Another person with very big importance for Lelo Nika is his fatherâ€™s teacher, Ionel Corneanu, who was very demanding and taught Lelo once and for all the meaning of discipline.
Lelo Nika plays music from the whole of the Balkans, but in his very own way, based on a particular groove that is typical of modern gypsy music. Lelo Nika has, since he six years ago started collaborating with Dalia Faitelson and Bo Stief on the jazz scene, performed and played with several jazz celebrities, among others Lelo has toured with Joe Zawinul (Weather Report). Leloâ€™s musical versatility and big recognition has also brought him together with TV2 and Lis SÃ¸rensen on the Danish pop scene. Lelo, who twice won the title â€œAccordion World Championâ€ and in 2003 received the readers price from the Danish world-music magazine â€œDjembeâ€ as cd-release of the year, is always aiming to learn something new and constantly looking for new musical challenges.
