Eugene Hideaway Bridges - Jump The Joint (2003)

Born in 1963, Eugene 'Hideaway' Bridges is the son of the blues guitarist Hideaway Slim, who taught him to play. He played guitar with his father around Louisiana for two years until, in his early teens, he formed his own band, the Five Stars, and focussed on playing and singing rhythm and blues. He later formed the Eugene 'Hideaway' Bridges Band, which toured all over the USA. He then travelled solo to Europe and was spotted in Paris by Big Joe Turner, who offered him a spot as featured artist with the Memphis Blues Caravan.
He has since re-formed his own band, and was elected Best Male Vocalist in 1998 and 1999 in British Blues Connection's yearly poll. His 2003 release ‘Jump the Joint’ reached Number 4 in the US Living Blues Charts, remaining in the charts for three months. Eugene’s songs also appear regularly in The National Association of Rhythm & Blues DeeJays charts. He was nominated for three 2003 US Cammy music Awards

Leon Russell - Guitar Blues (2001)

Is this Blues?
It may not sound like B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Delbert McClinton, John Lee Hooker or even Eric Clapton. And, no it may not sound a whole lot like early Leon Russell.
Technically, this is blues. A solid recording from start to finish. Very reminiscent of some of the work from "Leon Russell and the Shelter People" era but sounds fresh and lively. Bluesy but not slow at all, great listening.

Gerry Groom, Mick Taylor & Friends - Once In A Blue Moon (1991)

The project was built around the figure of Gerry Groom, master blues guitarist and blues songwriter.
Released in 1991 (Groom passed away in 1992, in a scuba diving accident), this record fully fits into blues traditional standards, both in the tracklist (songs by Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, except for five original compositions by G. Groom) and in the choice of instruments: most of them are strictly acoustic, with Groom's dobro starring. One of the rare electric instruments is Mick Taylor's (special guest of this work) Fender vintage Stratocaster (modified with a Rickenbacker pickup).
Paul Ill's (a.k.a. Adrian Well) bass, Thomas Blues' harmonica, Mat Abts' drums and Jeffrey Barr's piano complete the band.
Respect for blues tradition, impeccable music performances and accuracy in recording (all the acoustic sources are amplified with high-quality microphones) are the strong points of this work.

Sugar Ray & The Bluetones - Rockin Sugar Daddy (2001)

Sugar Ray Norcia has been playing music professionally since the early 1970's. In 1979 he joined forces with then fledgling guitarist Ronnie Earl and was the featured singer, harmonica player and songwriter on numerous Ronnie Earl recordings. Together they established the formidable band Sugar Ray & The Bluetones. In the early days of his career it was not unusual to find Ray backing up blues greats such as Otis Rush, Roosevelt Sykes, J.B. Hutto, Joe Turner and perhaps his greatest inspiration Big Walter Horton. Sugar Ray has consistently held company with world-class musicians and is known for his sincere, genuine personality and deeply rooted love of music.

Sugar Ray & The Bluetones were together for over twelve years and recorded two albums for the Rounder label entitled "Knockout"(1989) and "Don't Stand in My Way"(1991). The Bluetones were also recorded live with Big Walter Horton (Little Boy Blue on JSP).

In September of 1991, Sugar Ray joined the world renowned Roomful of Blues and performed over 200 dates a year worldwide. With Ray as front man, Roomful was nominated for countless awards and also recorded four critically acclaimed albums all appearing on the Billboard Blues Charts. In 1996, Roomful's "Turn It On! Turn It Up!" which included three of Ray's original compositions was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Traditional Blues category. During this hectic schedule Ray managed to cut two great recordings. A solo CD for Rounder called "Sweet and Swingin'" and a brilliant CD on the Telarc label entitled "Super Harps" featuring Sugar with James Cotton, Charlie Musselwhite and Billy Branch. "Super Harps" earned another a Grammy nomination in the Traditional Blues category. Sugar has also appeared on CDs by Pinetop Perkins, Ramblin' Dan Stevens and sax man Doug James.

In 2001 Sugar's career came full circle when he reunited with the Bluetones (featuring Kid Bangham on guitar) and released "Rockin' Sugar Daddy" on Severn Records. In 2003 the Bluetones recruited Monster Mike Welch for a self-titled release on Severn. In 2005 Ray and company along with the newest Bluetone Paul Size, have released a stellar CD that Sugar calls his best to date. After one listen to "Hands Across The Table" it's hard to disagree. Finally, in 2007, there is ''My Life, My Friends, My Music'' on Severn Records, with special Guests Duke Robillard, Monster Mike Welch, Greg Piccolo and many more.

Omar Kent Dykes & Jimmie Vaughan - On The Jimmy Reed Highway (2007)

"Big boss man is still the man today," growls Omar Dykes on one of just two non-Jimmy Reed covers from a rare release without his Howlers band. That handily sums up this roaring and impassioned tribute to one of the most vital, influential, yet often unheralded figures in blues. What was intended as a solo Dykes project took on a unique tinge as fellow Texan Jimmie Vaughan--also a huge Reed fan--swung by to add some solos and stayed to contribute his concise and taut guitar lines to nearly every track. The duo also brought in veteran harpists Kim Wilson (the Fabulous Thunderbirds), James Cotton (Muddy Waters), and local icon Gary Primich, as well as long time Vaughan associate Lou Ann Barton to upshift the groove with her sexy vocals. The resulting disc finds that slippery Reed pocket of sly, lazy, yet edgy shuffles that are deceptively difficult to recreate. Although Dykes's powerfully gruff, Howlin' Wolf-styled voice is nowhere near Reed's far less incisive approach, the bass-free instrumentation and Vaughan's guitar lines perfectly capture the essence of Reed's loping, low-key persona. Only a handful of these tracks ("Big Boss Man," "Baby What You Want Me to Do," "Bright Lights, Big City," and "Caress Me Baby") will be familiar to most, with others rescued from the deeper recesses of the bluesman's catalog. That makes this both a smooth drive and an immensely enjoyable learning experience for those wishing to take a field trip down Jimmy Reed's rugged highway
