Martin Kronlund is back with the 2nd Gypsy Rose album. The debut was released in 2005 with Hakan Gustafsson on vocals which was filled with nice Scandinavian melodic hardrock with strong hooklines.
Now 3 years later he's back with a new album and singer. For many the name David Reece will ring a bell and it’s not that strange because David sang in Accept and the brilliant Bangalore Choir to name two. David sings very good and he lifts up some of the songs a couple of levels.
Soundwise this new album is a bit heavier than the debut and more straight ahead hardrock with big guitars. There’s still lots of great melodic parts and a couple of songs with fantastic hooklines and choruses.
This reminds a little of the latest White Wolf album that Martin was involved in but the songs are not as strong as on that album. The production is powerful and crystal clear and I can only give thumps up for that.
Standout tracks on the album are the strong ballad When I Call Your Name that reminds of Bangalore Choir a lot and is filled with wonderful melodies, plus Don’t Look Back which is a fantastic song with fantastic guitars, huge hooks and a catchy chorus with powerful background vocals, best song of the album.
A Little Ain't Enough is a good guitar rocker with a melodic chorus a'la White Wolf. Some of the songs falls out of the frame and feels average. I think the debut had more memorable songs but the vocals are better this time around. If you think the last White Wolf album was good then Another World will please your needs even if it’s not as good. A solid album with a couple of standout tracks.
