Vol. 1, the debut from Stonewall Noise Orchestra, was your basic, garden-variety stoner rock. Driving rhythms, fuzzy riffs, big hooks - the whole shebang. There's nothing wrong with that, but Vol. 1 ultimately didn't offer anything that really elevated it above its peers.

With Constants in an Ever Changing Universe, the band is offering more of the same, albeit with a greater emphasis on the big hooks and with a little less standard-issue Big Muff distortion on the guitars. After an ultimately pointless intro track (“Roll Call”), the band hits the ground running with “Skyscraper Moment,” a pop-savvy interpretation of Kyuss. That formula is used to great effect also on “Venus Travel Agency” and “Clone Baby,” but the big hooks prove too big for some of the songs. “Hollow Parade,” “The Inventor,” and “Dynamo” come off a little too slick and polished (although if you thought the last Mustach album was a heavy hitter, you may react differently).

Constants in an Ever Changing Universe's greatest spark of inspiration comes on the last track, “Unknown of Me.” It's the obligatory slow and heavy closing number, but is sweetened with a melancholy melody courtesy of what I'm guessing is a bagpipe (or maybe a kazoo? Harmonica?). While the album's previous 11 numbers have varying degrees of success, this is the one song that leaves a lasting impression and shows that Stonewall Noise Orchestra has more to offer than your average driving rhythms, fuzzy riffs, and big hooks.

Hell yeah , had a shitty 128k rip , thought i better upgrade immediately , only way was via CD, quite possibly this one is better than Vol 1 after a few listens , a bit of filler here and there, this is one heavy mother of an album :winner:

After original guitarist and musical centerpiece Rik Emmett left Triumph in 1988, it appeared to be curtains for one of Canada's most successful hard rock outfits. The group had enjoyed over ten years of success, selling millions of records and concert tickets based largely on Emmett's mile-high operatic vocals and neo-classical but radio-friendly guitar work and compositions. Drummer Gil Moore and bassist Mike Levine were solid contributors to the band's success, however, and after a few years of inactivity the two musicians added fellow Canadian guitarist Phil X to their lineup and released Edge of Excess in 1993.

The reformed version of Triumph did SPAMisingly well, earning much praise in Canada for this comeback offering, but the disc was generally ignored in the States. The record boasted two hit singles, "Child of the City" and "Trouble Maker" (which was also featured in the Hellraiser III soundtrack).

Other standouts like the title track and "Black Sheep" boast a muscular yet melodic sound that had always been the band's trademark, proving Moore, Levine, and X to have the necessary chops and instincts to thrive sans Emmett. Although older fans will certainly miss Emmett's presence, Edge of Excess did nothing to diminish Triumph's considerable reputation. (Vincent Jeffries, All Music Guide)

Former AC/DC singer Dave Evans is back with his follow up to his 2005 CD, “Sinner”.

I enjoyed “Sinner” quite a bit, so I was anxious to hear what the Aussie King of the Badasses had in store for us, with his new disc “Judgement Day”.

Dave brought in his writing mate Mark Tinson to craft nine new tunes to get you rocking.

If you are familiar with the sound of Australian pub rock, then you will know what to expect with this CD. You get a bunch of hard rocking tunes with loud guitars that will get your blood pumping.

55 year old Dave Evans can still get in done in 2008. His vocals combined with the bluesy guitar licks of Ngariki makes this a fun disc to listen to. Guitarist Ngariki is a very good player, and his bluesy fretwork greatly augments the songs on “Judgement Day”.

Just listen to his playing on my favorite cuts “We Don’t Dance To Your Song”, “Little Headbanger” and “You Talkin’ To Me?”. He really kicks ass. I would love to see him handle these tunes in a live setting.

Bob Dylan, The Animals, Geordie, and countless other bands have covered “House of the Rising Sun”. Dave Evans doesn’t really add any new twists to the song, but I like his version.

I have to admit that “Judgement Day” sounds way more original and “back to the roots” compared to AC/DC’s “Black Ice” and it’s needless to say that Dave Evans beats Brian Johnson vocals by miles.

This is another solid effort from Dave Evans and company.

This is the debut album from UK band MOSTLY AUTUMN. They are playing rock mixed with reminiscences to Celtic music, FAIRPORT COVENTION, FLEETWOOD MAC, GENESIS, JETHRO TULL, PINK FLOYD and STEELEYE SPAN.

This is a very strong debut album with a lot of power, great melodies and good musicianship from this 8-man band. They are using various untraditional instruments such as Djembe, flute, tambourine, violin and whistles together with traditional rock instruments.

The highlights are the opening progressive track "Nowhere To Hide", the two beautiful Celtic folk rock tracks "Folklore" and "Shenanigans", the Irish influenced "Out Of The Inn" and the closing 10-minute "The Night Sky". A magnificent release from MOSTLY AUTUMN on the Cyclops label. A really interesting and highly recommended album! :ohyea:

The Spirit of Autumn Past, the second album from this English folk/space rock band is quite a piece. They have a very unique sound combining a great deal of Pink Floyd influence with a strong celtic rock edge.

One of the things I love about this group is how they incorporate all their songwriting and techniques into such emotional pieces. They are trained musicians and have a lot of progressive rock influences, but they don't make that their strong point. Their strength lies in their ability to write music that hits your soul. Every note is placed in the right spot and every note has feeling. Bryan Josh may not play a great deal of notes, but every note he does play is filled with his life force. Strong examples of this would be the moving solos of "Evergreen" and "The Gap is Too Wide" , which might be my favorite song this band has ever written.

It starts of very slowly and gets you in a very pensive state of mind. Eventually it builds up into a very epic and emotional guitar/bag pipe solo. It's just beautiful fantastic music, and pretty easy to get into. One doesn't have to be a musician to appreciate this (hey even my dad loves it!). Highly recommended. (progarchives.com)Very Happy

With their latest release Mostly Autumn both return to doing what they do best, and venture gently into new territories. Following on from their disappointing Heart Full of Sky, complete with band members leaving, fans split in their tastes etc, MA have returned to their roots as an English progressive folk band, rather than trying to become the new Deep Purple.

In doing so, and by limiting the writing to the creative duo of Bryan Josh and Heather Findlay, they have tapped back into that pastoral beauty associated with their earlier music. Featuring traditional folk instruments again, and folk melodies, means that the album now flows gently but beautifully from beginning to end.

That's not to say that the CD is just re-treading old ground. Opening track Fireside features a wonderfully looping riff that proves MA can rock brilliantly, from there though the pace drops and the passion climbs as Bryan sings The Second Hand. The rest of the album features the mixture of folk and rock that long-time fans love so much, from the Karen Carpenter tones of Above The Blue, the jaunty lilt of Flowers For Guns reminding of summer music from the sixties, to the progressive tones of title track Glass Shadows.
It may be early in the year but I know this will be featuring come the end of year Best Of lists. (progarchives.com) :ohyea:

BAND:
A.J. Fedz - Vocals / Guitar
Dino Castano / Drums
Karl Karston / Guitar
Joey Reno / Bass

This CD is a good slice of 80’s style, sleazy hard rock- not the glam end of things but the guitars and choruses are reminiscent of the late 80’s, with vocalist/guitarist AJ Fedz providing a modern sound to things. Opening track “Wake Up The Nation”, “Breakout”, “Can’t Stop The Insanity” and ballad “Love Steals” are the highlights here.

Why Buy? A good mix of modern hard rock, with a nod to the past.
Tracks to burn? “Breakout”, “Can’t Stop The Insanity” and “Love Steals”
................
If you want to hear some good new 80’s style hard rock, you need to give Snakeryder’s new disc, Back For the Kill a listen. To give you a quick idea what this band sounds like, if you were to put Dave Meniketti from Y&T, members of Cinderella and George Lynch era Dokken into a blender, they might sound like Snakeryder.
THE SOUND: Hard driving 80's melodic metal with great guitars & choruses. Let's just say that if Cinderella & Y&T had joined forces & collaborated on an album together, Snakeryder would be the outcome.

THE RESULT: An album that will make you literally feel the music, as long as you play it as it should be played, loud & hard! Snakeryder is a new band from New Jersey, which features an excellent group of musicians who don't want to let go of the 80's, which is proven in their debut release of “D.O.A.”. A treat for any fan of hard rock/heavy metal, Snakeryder delivers exactly what has has been missing from the music industry for over a decade. So grab your leather jacket & gloves & prepare for a ryde on the snake…Snakeryder that is...

Originally released in 1985 "The Good the Bad the Waysted" followed the Waysted mini LP with a strong full LP release. Waysted also spawned same drama as UFO, so for this record drummer Andy Parker was out, but Pete Way got another UFO member Paul Chapman on the six-string.

"The Good the Bad the Waysted"is a display in good time Rock N' Roll. It's raw, rough, has tons of attitude and just great melodies with Hang Em High and Land That's Lost Love as album highlights. Paul Chapman fits the band perfectly and Waysted also varies the song writing - Manuel is an extended rocker clocking at 6 minutes with an amazing middle play.
..............
Welcome to the Waysted, wild west rock 'n' roll shoot-out...

The Good The Bad The Waysted, is a down 'n out recording of dirty raunch 'n' roll that kicks ass from start to close. Throughout the seedy album, former UFO bassist Pete Way and his wrecked mates, vocalist Fin and indestructible guitarist Paul "Tonka" Chapman, come out with their guns blazing. _The Good The Bad The Waysted_ is back alley, loud 'n' proud, lean 'n' mean', gritty rock 'n' roll for the whiskey drinkin' masses. Fins raw vocals are tough as nails, as the Waysted boys bring down the walls with bad ass tracks, which includes album opener "Hang 'em High", plus "Dead on Your Legs", "Rolling Out the Dice", "Crazy 'bout the Stuff", and a full-tilt cover of Chuck Berry's Around and Around".
F**k off... Get Waysted! (rateyourmusic.com)

Hell yeah , at least get Waysted Very Happy

When it comes to female fronted Metal bands, the UK are woefully lacking when compared to our European cousins, or any other country come to think of it. Has the UK ever produced a world class female fronted band that can compete with the likes of Nightwish, Within Temptation or Lacuna Coil? Shit, I can't even think of one that'll give the 3rd tier of bands a run for their money... So are Liquid Sky the band the UK desperately needs to give us little credibility when it comes to the Gothic end of the spectrum? That's a toughie.

Judging this album on its own merits,it's a bloody good album. Liquid Sky have a certain Englishness about them, but singer Hecate Taglietti brings a European flavour with her voice and I could see quite easily see Liquid Sky signing for a label like Napalm Records and the band being schooled by Alex Krull at his Mastersound Studios. Musically, I'd say that Liquid Sky are going to appeal to those that prefer the Progressive side of things, and with Threshold's Karl Groom handling the production duties, that backs this up that theory quite nicely.

Their approach is slow and measured, with everything in its place, and that yields my only complaint. Some of the songs, after a few minutes, start to plod a little. I'm thinking more of in the live environment, than in the studio, as I can see someone catching Liquid Sky for the first time, and being unfamiliar with their material, starting to drift off as the band aren't doing enough to keep their attention. They need the injection of pace that's used on Dreamstate, which is probably the most enjoyable song on the album, or the simplistic beauty of Watch The Ocean, to keep things interesting.
Liquid Sky are definitely one of the better bands emerging from the UK underground I'd recommended this to anyone who's a fan of either female fronted, or Gothic Progressive Metal. Potentially, they are the ones to watch.
