Jud's Gallery - SWF Sessions (1972-74)

DIE BAND

Jud´s Gallery wurde 1970 vom Bandleader Jürgen (Judy) Winter gegründet, der der Band auch den Namen gab. Einziges weiteres Gründungsmitglied welches bei beiden Aufnahmesessions mitwirkte ist Peter Oehler, der zuvor mit Judy bereits in anderen Bands gespielt hatte.
Beide enthusiastisch, voller musikalischer Ideen und von einem Hang zur Perfektion getrieben, fanden kongeniale Mitstreiter, zunächst in Hannes Gremminger, Herbert Brandmeyer und Elly Lapp, die kurzzeitig mit für den Gesang zuständig war, die Gruppe aber bald wieder verließ.
In dieser Besetzung wurden 5 Titel bei der ersten Aufnahmesession am 28.07.1972 eingespielt. Auf Initiative des damaligen SWF-Moderators Hans-Jürgen Kliebestein, war die Band zu den Aufnahmen eingeladen worden.
1972 und 1974 nahmen sie für den Südwestfunk in zwei Aufnahme-Sessions Material auf, dass seinerzeit z.B. im Popshop ausgestrahlt wurde. Ein Vierteljahrhundert später wurden beide SWF-Sessions von Long Hair Music auf CD gebracht .
Die Band, die in ihrer Region bereits zu diesem Zeitpunkt in allen bespielbaren Clubs aufgetreten war, wurde nun auch als Supportband für internationale Rockgrößen engagiert. Eine deutschlandweite Tournee mit Golden Earring wurde absolviert.
Die Gruppe spielte im Vorprogramm zu Steamhammer, Pretty Things, Beggar´s Opera, Ekseption, Alexis Korner usw.
Daran schlossen sich deutschlandweite Konzerte als Headliner an, Aufrtitte im französischen Grenzgebiet und auf Festivals. Jud´s Gallery waren gleichermaßen hochgeschätzt von Fans und Konzertveranstaltern. Auf einem Festival im süddeutschen Raum wurde die Band von Roland Schaeffer (u.a. Fashion Pink, Brainstorm, Guru Guru) angesprochen, der als Produzent für den SWF tätig war. Dieser lud die Band, deren Besetzung zwischenzeitlich gewechselt hatte, zu einer zweiten Aufnahmesession ein. Am 29.03.1974 wurden vier weitere Titel, u.a. das 12-minütige Nordrach, in der Besetzung Jürgen Winter, Peter Oehler, Clem Winterhalter und Sibi Siebert eingespielt. Diese Aufnahmen steigerten nochmals die Reputation der Band und es war nur noch eine Frage der Zeit, wann Jud´s Gallery eine LP veröffentlichen würde.
Ein Kontakt zu Achim Reichel´s Label „Gorilla Music“ war hergestellt. Kurz bevor es ins Studio gehen sollte, hatte sich die Band, die trotz der vielen Auftritte hart um ihr wirtschaftliches Überleben kämpfen musste, jedoch aus persönlichen Gründen aufgelöst.

Rechtstreit gewann die Deutsche Band

Das Landgericht München hat entschieden: Gary Moores Welthit "Still got the Blues" ist in Teilen abgekupfert, und zwar von dem deutschen Musiker Jürgen Winter und seiner Band Jud's Gallery.

Christian Rannenberg, the German blues pianist, may be an unfamiliar name to many people, but he is one of the most renowned blues piano players on the current jazz scene. In 1976 he was a co-founder of the "Blues Company". In 1982 he moved to Chicago, and played with blues musicians of the calibre of John Littlejohn, Lefty dizz, Sam Lay and Jimmy Rogers. The same year, he formed The International Blues Duo with the great tenor saxophonist, Gary Wiggins, with whom he recorded an album. The International Blues Duo toured Europe during the eighties, both as a duo, and also with artists like John Heartsman, Angela Brown, Guitar Crusher, Big Jay McNeely and Charlie Musselwhite. Christian also toured Europe with the great Aron Burton, the bass player, singer and songwriter, who is a big name on the Chicago Blues Scene. "Cool Blues" is a quality album with really top class piano from Christian, as well as some superb nusicians, including Aron Burton on bass, and vocals. Christian's own compositions are very good, and he does a few great versions of standards like "Willow Weep For Me" and Stephen Foster's "Swanee River Boogie." This is boogie piano blues as it should be played. Try and listen to Christian Rannenberg's "Blues" album, or Doug Jay & The Blue Jays great 2007 "Under The Radar" album, which features some great playing from Christian.

Todor "Toscho" Todorovic, Blues Company's co-founder as well as singer, guitarist, composer and sound freak was born in 1951 in Lingen, in the Emsland region of northern Germany. His parents, who were born in Yugoslavia and who had fled to West Germany after the Second World War, gave their son a variety of opportunities to expand his musical horizons. And what Toscho learned from them and from grand old men of the blues including B.B. King and Muddy Waters would one day become the lifeblood of "his" Blues Company.
Toscho not only plays the blues, he lives them. Blues without compassion would be unthinkable. Thus for years the band's leader has organised benefit events both large and small in his adopted country. For his commitment to social concerns, the city of Osnabrück awarded him the Public Service Medal in 1993.

Nicht aus Chicago oder New Orleans, sondern aus dem Elbe-Weser-Dreieck in der
norddeutschen Tiefebene stammt die 1990 gegründete Bluesrockband STONEHENGE.
Die drei Musiker schöpfen somit aus jahrelanger Erfahrung, die jeweils auch in
verschiedensten anderen Bands und Projekten gesammelt wurde.
Drei in Eigenregie produzierte CDs sind in dieser Zeit entstanden und können über die
bandeigene Homepage www.stonehenge-online.de geordert werden.
Wetterfester Bluesrock und der raue Charme der eigenen Songs, größtenteils in unserer
Muttersprache vorgetragen, machen diese Band unverwechselbar.
Im aktuellen Programm, ergänzt durch Cover-Versionen von verschiedenen Bluesrock-
Klassikern, zelebriert das Trio "Schweiß pur" und lässt das Publikum unweigerlich an
seiner unbändigen Spielfreude teilhaben... Eine spannende Darbietung jenseits aller
stilistischen Klischees, die nicht nur Bluesfreaks, sondern auch Rockfans in ihren Bann
zieht!
