11- Imadjigui 4:31

Background information:
Tiken Jah Fakoly (1968–) is a reggae singer from Côte d'Ivoire.
Tiken Jah was born into a family of griots and christened Doumbia Moussa Fakoly on June 23, 1968 inOdiené, north-western Côte d'Ivoire. He discovered reggae at an early age, assembling his first group, Djelys, in 1987. He became well-known at a regional level, but would soon ascend to national recognition.
Concerned by the social and political evolution of his country, it was not long before Tiken Jah was writing incisive works on the political environment in Côte d'Ivoire. One such work was on the death of Félix Houphouët-Boigny in 1993, which resulted in a surge of popularity amongst the nation's youth. In 1998, Fakoly made his first international appearance in Paris.
Tiken Jah Fakoly plays music "to wake up the consciences". His music speaks about many injustices done to the people of his country, and those over Africa. As such, many African listeners feel a deep affinity with his lyrics as Fakoly speaks for oppressed people. This connection has helped make Tiken Jah Fakoly a much-listened artist throughout the world.
Since the rise in political instability and xenophobia in Côte d'Ivoire in recent years, Tiken Jah has been living in exile, particularly in Bamako (capital of the neighboring country of Mali) where his concerts are well-attended. In December 2007, Fakoly was declared persona non grata in Senegal after criticizing President Abdoulaye Wade.

The Gladiators
Back to Roots

Album : Back to Roots
Artist : The Gladiators
Release Date : 2000
Label : Tabou 1 France
Cathalog #: TB1 CD25
Genre : Reggae
Total time : 01:04:13

11. On The Other Side
12. Chatty Chatty Mouth
13. Talking Blues
14. Rude Boy Ska

@ 224 Kbit/s

the gladiators released this album after being critized for losing their influential position in the roots world. in other words, the album was the group's attempt to prove their status as one of reggae's best band. and they did just that with this album. there are some old songs from the group's other albums as well as new ones on this album. the group does not hide that fact that they are highly influenced by bob marley. there are remakes of bob's songs (chatty mouth and talking blues) on the album. however, and i think it was a good move on the part of the group, they do not try to impersonate marley as so many reggae artist try to do but fail. i also recommend the gladiator's trench town (which was their first release and is a better introduction than back to my roots)

They were the first group to win a Grammy in the reggae category when it was introduced in 1985. They originally formed as 'Black Sounds Uhuru'. Uhuru is the Swahili word for freedom.

Tiken Jah Fakoly
Mangercratie

Artist: Tiken Jah Fakoly
CD title: Mangercratie
Release date: 1996
Label: Blue Silver
Number of Discs: 1
Genre: Reggae
Time: 00:33:58
Total size: 46,6 MB

2. Plus Jamais Ca
3. Descendant
4. Don
5. Mangercratie (On a Tout Compris...)
6. Djeli
7. Crazy World
8. Descendant [Dub]

@192 Kbit/s mp3

Background information:
Since his debut album Djelys (1993), Tiken Jah Fakoly has become one of Africa’s most powerful musical voices. That is partly thanks to his engaged brand of reggae and social commentary. The Ivorian’s trenchant words, either in his native Malinke or in French, go to the heart of the ills dogging his continent - and the cynical connivance of the West behind them. In 2007, Fakoly released his eighth recording L’Africain.

Yellowman
Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt

Album : Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt
Artist : Yellowman
Release Date : 1984
Label : Shanachie Records
Number of discs : 1
Genre : Reggae
Total time : 00:34:26
Total size : 48,4 MB

Individual track details :
1: Nobody Move Nobody Get Hurt (3:42)
2: Strictly Mi Belly (3:57)
3: Bedroom Mazuka (3:17)
4: Body Move (3:33)
5: Good Loving (3:12)
6: Wreck a Pum Pum (3:02)
7: Hill and Gully Rider (3:45)
8: Yellowman a the Lover Boy (3:22)
9: Watch Your Words (3:10)
10: Why You Bad So (3:26)

@ 320 Kbit/s mp3

Early Reggae fans can easily remember Yellowman for his (explicit) lyrics as he rose to international fame alongside Buju Banton. By the mid-1990s however, Yellowman released socially conscious material with over 40 singles and a slew of albums including, Mister Yellowman (1982), Nobody Move Nobody Get Hurt (1984) and Yellow Fever (1999).

Quote:
By A Customer (Amazon.com)
Yellowman has a tendancy to heavily recycle his hits on his later albums. Thankfully, Nobody Move contains many great originals. The title track, "Watch Your Words", and "Hill and Gully Rider" are all classic Yellowman tunes. Nobody Move is no King Yellowman, but if you enjoy old school DJ or sing-jay style reggae, you'll dig this album.

In addition to being credited with coining the term "reggae" back in the late 1960s, Toots Hibbert is a genre cornerstone whose contributions tend to be overshadowed by better-known artists such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Jimmy Cliff. TRUE LOVE finds producer Richard Feldman trying to set the record straight with this collection of all-star duets that span musical styles and generations. Luckily, Feldman's extensive preparations found him re-recording a number of Hibbert's better-known numbers and using many of the session musicians who played on the original versions.

The result features Eric Clapton peppering "Pressure Drop" with snappy blues riffs, Bonnie Raitt reworking the title cut and providing a fine romantic foil to Hibbert, and Willie Nelson trading verses on the country legend's own "Still Is Still Moving to Me." In keeping an authentic vibe to the proceedings, Feldman also recruited reggae vets Bunny Wailer (contributing to a soulful "Take a Trip") and the duo of Marcia Griffiths and Ken Boothe (on a snappy "Reggae Got Soul").

The calibre of the collaborators on "True Love" reveals the impact that Toots has had on several generations of rockers and rappers, while appearances from reggae icons Bunny Wailer and Marcia Griffiths show the respect granted to the man who might be the music's greatest living vocalist. Special guests include Ben Harper, Shaggy, Willie Nelson, Keith Richards, Ryan Adams, Eric Clapton, No Doubt, Jeff Beck, The Roots, Bootsy Collins, Bonnie Raitt, Trey Anastasio, Ken Boothe, Marcia Griffiths, Terry Hall, Rhazel, The Skatalites, U-Roy, Bunny Wailer and Rachel Yamagata.

During the late '70s and early '80s, the DJ rose to prominence in Jamaica's musical hotbed and helped usher in the dancehall era after several years of roots reggae dominance. Some of the earliest and most talented of these toasters included Charlie Chaplin, Ranking Toyan, General Echo, Jah Thomas, and the young Josey Wales. This musical outlaw first came up with U-Roy's Stur-Gav Hi-Fi before riding hits produced by Henry "Junjo" Lawes, Bunny Roots, and George Phang -- he even manned the boards himself on his sophomore release, No Way Better Than Yard. By the time of this 1984 meeting with the biggest dancehall star of the early dancehall period, Yellowman, Wales had honed his hoarse-toned and rangy delivery to perfection. The resulting album, which avoids the sad fate of many a marquee date, is one of the highlights of the period. Besides some top toasting, the album also features superb backdrops from Lawes and the Roots Radics.
