well she may be nearly 50 but still the girl can amaze!

if the promo album is anything to go by madonna has changed her sound to reflect the current music scene!

after 25 years its amazing she can turn the music scene around..she was never a follower always a leader!

she looks as good as ever..she sounds as good as ever...she writes as good as ever...and the production is as good as ever!

cyndi lauper tried to take over in the 80's..britney in the 90's... but she sees them all off..and if the new album is anything to go by she will for decades to come!

im playing her first album just to see how far the lady has come! it sounds fresh! as they all do!

Well, having heard a copy of the album sent to my friend (a music blagger by trade) I can only say that to my ears it's just not original or innovative in any way. That's not necessarily her fault as the producers she has used have a 'set' sound, and Rn'B/Urban music style is often very 'samey' as anyone like me who can't tell the difference between a lot of the female singers will know already (and I guess I must come clean and profess that in no-way is this style my favourite music style so I'm possible pre-biased against it...). But same-sounding production issues aside, as a Madonna fan of many years I don't feel it posseses enough strong songs like the better albums Madge has released.

Most people will have heard the opening single release with Mr Timberlake, and if that disappointed you then IMO sadly I can't report there being any future Madonna classics lurking on the album ready to jump out at the world and change the nagging feeling you get that she is only following trends these days - not setting them. This in my opinion is the biggest let down. I can forgive brave albums that don't work out (U2's Pop....), but to just be blase' and unoriginal doesn't sit well when you have such an illustrious and brilliant past as Ms Ciccone.

It's easy to understand why she has chosen to go for a lot of US urban sound, after all it's very 'in' and popular and it probably guarantees a few million sales. But I just don't think this style sits easily with her. It's too hard a sound, and nor is she very convincing singing it IMO (maybe because her background is so far removed from the black urban street scene???).

Hard Candy is the follow-up to the hugely sucessful dance album 'Confessions On A Dancefloor.' This album does not stick to the previous one's formula, moving away from disco for a more beat heavy hip-hop sound. To ensure this does not go horribly wrong, Timbaland, Danja and Pharrell are among the producers brought in to oversee the project.
The first single '4 Minutes' features Justin Timberlake and is very production heavy with a lot of horns and bass. It's has A LOT of energy and is a great track to choose for a 1st single. Candy Shop produced by Pharrell is a mid-tempo track with one of those beats that just sticks in your head - a great listen. The highlight of the mid-tempo's is without a doubt is 'Devil' (previously known as - Even The Devil Wouldn't Recognise You which has been re-worked). This is quite a dark track but will end up on repeat on your CD player.
'Give It To Me' 'The Beat Goes On' and 'She's Not Me' are all edgier, different, funky kinda tracks that add a new dimension to the album. The closing track of the album is 'Voices' and like 'confessions...' the final track is lyrically the deepest. It's a reflective song which questions society. It has a fairly slow tempo but maintains a hip-hop beat.
All-in-all this album is a solid return for Madonna, the only criticism would be that it's questionable just how different and unique it is to the Rihanna's, Beyonce's & Janet's already out there considering she has worked with the same people to similar effect. However if it is just solid, good music you want instead of tons of originality and forward thinking then this album is definately for you and will not disappoint! only the first few tracks are real tracks from Hard Candy. Track 3 is actually Superpop, Track 5 is Hey You, Track 4 & 6 are both the same track which sounds like a demo. The bonus 12" mix on the end is actually the Radio edit from the CD Single.

Keep looking, there are genuine versions of the album out there.
